Bus Travel

Greyhound

Greyhound provides regular Las Vegas service; the bus terminal is Downtown. Visit the website for fare, schedule, and baggage-allowance information. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The most frequent route out of Las Vegas is the one to Los Angeles, with departures several times a day; the trip takes five to eight hours, depending on stops. Fares begin at around $20 one-way, if you take advantage of the substantial discounts offered on the website. On Sunday evening and Monday morning, arriving an hour or more before departure is recommended.

RTC

The county-operated Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) runs local buses throughout the city and to most corners of sprawling Las Vegas Valley. The overall quality of bus service along the main thoroughfares is good. Nonlocals typically ride RTC buses only up and down the Strip, between Mandalay Bay and the Stratosphere. Some continue on to the Bonneville Transit Center. If you're heading to outlying areas, you may need to change buses Downtown. Mornings and afternoons the buses are frequently crowded, with standing room only. The fare for residential RTC buses is $2.

The Deuce

The Deuce is a special double-decker RTC bus that rides the Strip for $6 for two hours. All Deuce fares include transfers on residential routes as well. The Deuce, which began service in 2005, certainly is a unique way to explore new and old Vegas alike. Buses stop on the street in front of all the major hotels about every 15 minutes (in a perfect world) between 7 am and 2 am and every 20 minutes between 2 am and 7 am. Because traffic is quite heavy along the Strip, delays are frequent. Also, because the bus route has become popular among tourists, 24-hour passes ($8), 3-day passes ($20) and 30-day passes ($65) are available.
