Transfers

Before you leave for Puerto Rico, check with your hotel about transfers; many larger hotels provide transport from the airport, free or for a fee, to their guests. Otherwise, your best bets are taxis turísticos (tourist taxis). Uniformed officials at the airport can help you make arrangements. They will give you a slip with your exact fare written on it to hand to the driver. Rates are based on your destination. A taxi turístico to Isla Verde costs $10. It's $15 to Condado and $19 to Old San Juan and the cruise-ship piers. There's a $1 charge for each bag handled by the driver.

The Baldorioty de Castro Expressway (Route 26) runs from the airport into the city. Exits are clearly marked along the way, though you should check with your hotel to determine which one is best for you to take. Plan on 25–30 minutes for the drive from the airport all the way west to Old San Juan.
